The building where the Art Gallery - Dobrich is placed is
declared to be an architectural and structural monument of culture.
It was built in the period 1933 - 1935 and is interesting as a sample
of European influence on architecture - its designers are Italian
and Romanian trained. It is located in the center of the city and
is an accent in the architectural memory of Dobrich with a dominating
role in today's administrative - cultural center of the town.
The building is rich of different layers of historical memory: a Court
until 1940, a Police station with cells preserved up to our days,
a building used by the County Committee of the Communist Party till
1981, an Art Gallery since 1981/1982.
The building is two-storeyed at a total area of 3960 sq.m.
The art fund has been collected for 40 years - part of it are works
of the national image art inheritance (the Golden art fund of Bulgaria
including works made by the most famous Bulgarian artists). The Gallery
is in possession of over 3000 works - paintings, graphics, sculpture,
decorative - plastic arts and works made of hand-made paper.
